Fascia is a vital component of the musculoskeletal system in both horses and dogs which functions as a web like system to support the movement of soft tissue structures such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. This can often become restricted due to pressure, emotional stress, dehydration and direct trauma. Manual myofascial release has shown to be highly effective to reduce such restrictions, however, the fascial edge tool has an innovative design allowing it to treat fascia superficially and at deeper levels.
I travelled up to Oxford to complete the training on this tool which was hosted by Rose therapy. The day started with recapping fascial systems and how these effect the body as a whole, we then learnt about the design of the tool, the science behind its use before completing several hours of practical application on the horses and it was fantastic to see how well the horses respond to this form of treatment. The shape of the tool has been designed strategically with curves and flat surfaces to allow for its application to varying anatomical areas to suit the horses body profile.
Benefits of fascial release:
Improve range of motion
Reduces pain
Improves circulation
Decreases tension
Improves healing
This will be inlcuded in treatment sessions to help support manual myofascial release work.
